
DIMAPUR, JANUARY 21 (MExN): Several Chang and Sangtam bodies have decided to abstain from participation in the upcoming Nagaland State General Elections which is scheduled to be held on February 27.
The Chang Khulei Setshang, Changsao Thangjam Setshang, Chang Wedoshi Setshang issued a joint statement resolving not to participate in the polls.
This was decided during their emergency meeting at the CKS Hall on January 21. The organizations resolved to remain steadfast and firm to the August 26, 2022 ENPO resolution to abstain from participating in the upcoming polls until the Government of India grants the ENPO demand for separate statehood befittingly.
The house further resolved not to allow any individual from the Chang community to file nomination to the 2023 NLA General Election and that stern action will be initiated against those individuals jeopardizing the stand of the Chang Khulei Setshang.
The Chang Khulei Setshang also endorsed the Chang Wedoshi Setshang to fully implement and act on the resolution. No political campaign shall be allowed within the Chang jurisdiction, it informed.
The United Sangtam Likhüm Pümji (USLP) also resolved and re-affirmed in toto to continue to fully support the August 26, 2022 ENPO resolution to abstain from participating in the upcoming election until the Government of India fulfils the demand of the ENPO for a separate state of ‘Frontier Nagaland.’
This was re-affirmed during an emergency meeting held with all the frontal organizations under USLP, all political parties, Head GBs & VCCs, USSC and AST at Hopongkyu Memorial Hall Kiphire on January 21.
The USLP resolved that no individual/candidate shall file nomination under Sangtam jurisdiction, and cautioned that “any individual failing to adhere with the directives, the USLP shall not be held responsible in the event of any circumstances.”
It further endorsed and empowered the United Sangtam Students' Conference (USSC), Akehta Sangtamlarü Thsingmüjang (AST) and the village councils to fully implement the resolution. “Any individual under USLP violating the resolution shall be ex-communicated from Sangtam community effectively,” the USLP said.
