Kohima, January 19: Resource persons at a workshop held to evaluate Hindi textbooks (Elementary Level) of Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh from January 13 to 19 at SCERT, Kohima, have recommended few changes in elementary Hindi textbooks of Nagaland.
According to a press note from Dr Philip, Local Programme Coordinator & Hindi Coordinator, Directorate of School Education, during the seven days, resource persons evaluated the Hindi textbooks of class I to V of Nagaland and recommended few changes in the text books. The recommendations pertained to various aspects of photograph/pictures, cover page, productions/layout, curriculum load, contents, child-centered learning and national concerns, etc. provided in the text books. Tool developed by NCERT to evaluate the Hindi textbooks was used.
Although well planned and written, the note suggested, the text books need to be revised as resource persons expressed concerns especially on appropriate use of words and their representations by the pictures, use of mother tongue in teaching –learning of Hindi as the second language, making the content more contextual as per the socio-cultural and geographical locations of the State, removing all those contents and pictures which reinforce gender stereotypes, integrating environmental concerns and values in the contents, use of modern ways of CCE in the exercises given at the end of chapters, making the chapters more imaginative and creative, etc.
