Charity drive under purpose project held

Dimapur, February 23 (MExN): A charity drive was organised by Lika Chophy, the reigning Miss Nagaland 1st Runner-Up, Miss Sumi and the District Election SVEEP Icon of Zunheboto in aid to her beauty with a purpose project “toward a new vision” where she will be working towards eradicating child labour, child abuse and also promote education on clean election.

The programme which was held outside Big Bazaar, Dimapur on February 22 kicked off with an invocation followed by song and dance performances from Atokili Yeptho, Hukali Rochill, Kakugha Awomi, Vivikali Swu, Rhonbeni Patton and Divine Steppers.

According to a press release, she will be touring the rural areas in and around Zunheboto, Dimapur, Niuland and Chümoukedima districts. The first of her three phase project will start from March.

She stated that children are the most important resource of our society and that we should all work together to create a space where the children can feel safe and where they will be provided the basic Right to Education.

Although child protection law exists in Nagaland, the main challenge when it comes to ensuring the protection and safety of children is the lack of standards in terms of what qualifies as child maltreatment. She will be focusing on creating awareness, skill development and the importance of education amongst the three primary stakeholders - the children, the parents and guardians on the subject of child abuse i.e. physical, mental, emotional and sexual abuse.

She will also be working on promoting education on clean election as clean election does not really exist in our land. Her main objective is to let people know the importance of their vote and the right they possess through their vote. She said that education on the aforesaid topics is the need of the hour and she aims to atleast change one mindset through her project which will slowly yet definitely change the mindset of many and to create a society where all youths, women, orphans and vulnerable children will advocate for equal participation in development and informed choices.
