Sponsored by CMO Longleng Dr Obangjungla  and her husband Benjung Aier, the camp commenced on Tuesday at Phom Lempong School and will continue till August 26 in the district headquarter, after which the team will conduct screening at the blocks in Tamlu CHC, Buranamsang HWC, Sakshi PHC, Yongnyah PHC  and Yachem CHC in their respective health units, according to a press release from the CMO Office.

The CMO Longleng Dr Obangjungla, while delivering the keynote address at the launching programme at Phom Lempong School, said that they had planned to organise the hearing camp for a long time and expressed happiness that Longleng is one of the districts selected for the hearing camp.

She shared that hearing impairment occurs when there is a problem with or damage to one or more parts of the ear, citing that the degree of hearing impairment can vary widely from one person to another.

Dr Obangjungla shared an incident during one of the health camps at Thanamir in Kiphire district years ago involving a girl who could not hear for 15 years, only to find out that the problem was the ear wax blocking both of her ears.

After medications and syringing the wax was removed and she could hear properly, the CMO said, adding that the incident made her think that the society needs to do something for the people with hearing impairment.

The CMO said that the hearing aids will be provided for those who need it in the month of September after the hearing camp is completed in all the blocks. She also thanked Principal Director Dr Neikhrielie Khimiao and Director Dr Vikato Kinimi Health and Family Welfare, Kohima for deputing two ENT specialists and technicians for the ear and hearing camp.

Robin Zeliang ADC thanked Dr Obangjungla CMO and her husband for sponsoring the ear and hearing camp for the people of Longleng, saying that this is a first of its kind in the district.
