DIMAPUR, APRIL 20 (MExN): The Community Health Centre (CHC) in Chiephobozou, Kohima district, marked World Oral Health Month with a series of outreach and awareness activities, led by Dr. Asezo Sekhose, Dental Surgeon, under the theme “A Happy Mouth is a Happy Mind.”

The observance, which began on April 16 and will continue throughout the month, features a range of programs aimed at improving oral health awareness and practices across the region. Dr. Sekhose and his team conducted oral health camps at various schools and an orphanage in Kohima, where they offered services such as oral screening, fluoride application, and dental extractions to benefit children and students.

In addition to treatment, the team emphasized preventive care. Demonstrations on effective brushing techniques were held, along with sessions on the dangers of tobacco use. A student painting competition was also organized to encourage creative expression of oral health messages.

Special attention was given to strengthening grassroots health awareness through targeted sessions for Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA), Community Health Officers (CHOs), Anganwadi workers, and local councillors of the Chiephobozou block. These sessions included information on oral hygiene as well as early signs and prevention of oral cancer.

Speaking at the programme, Dr. Sekhose expressed his gratitude to the participating institutions and stakeholders, saying, “Collective efforts are essential to promoting oral health and overall well-being in the community.”
