Chetheba town attains 50 years

Kohima | January 3 : Parliamentary secretary for social welfare & women development Chotisüh Sazo stressed on the need to have proper town planning for Chetheba so as to cope with the concept of modernization.
Addressing the golden jubilee celebration of Chetheba Town on December 31, he also challenged the people to renew their visions for progress and prosperity of Chetheba town. Complimenting the 50th glorious years of Chetheba town, Sazo asserted that the town is now equipped with basic necessity like water supply, electricity, schools and health centre and further stressed on the need to focus on human resources development and also boosting economy of the people.
Chotisüh call for making Chetheba a peaceful town
Chetheba is under Phek district and lies 57 kms away from Kohima. The town has 1481 population. The number of gazetted officers stands at 19, MBBS 7, post graduate 41, graduate 122, under graduate 36 and matriculate 189.
The parliamentary secretary informed that there is proposal for setting up of a Polytechnic College at Chetheba and rural tourism at Chesezu village. Such assets, he said, would pull maximum number of tourists and hence called upon the denizens of Chetheba to strive to bring about peaceful environment in the town. He continued that peaceful atmosphere and unity is the key to take the town forward in developmental spheres and help yield the inflow of tourists. Sazo also called upon the people to maintain team spirit and unity and at the same time challenged them to continue to uphold the good moral values of forefathers and make Chetheba as a peaceful town. “With the celebration of golden jubilee let us retrospect ourselves, learn from the past and continue to move forward to achieve our goal,” scripted Sazo in the souvenir. Later, Sazo released the souvenir of Chetheba town. “As we celebrate 50 years let us make every effort to do what is right and pleasing to God, and to love and care for each other. That will make us a model town,” writes Rev. Bonny Resü, general secretary Asia Baptist Federation.
Sülüpoyi Swiho, vice chairman Chetheba Adhoc Town Committee also stated that fifty years of endeavour by various zealous people have elevated our people socially, educationally and spiritually made us a responsible citizen. “The golden jubilee celebration reminds me of the sacrifices and dedications made by the pioneers and founding villages towards the progress of the town,” said social worker Sülüpo Thingo adding that the celebrations calls upon all to rededicate and commit ourselves to make it a model town.
Merahü Rose, president Phek District GB Association writes “With this milestone achievement, it is high time that we the citizens of Chetheba would continue to strive for truth, good and constructive things in a mature manner so as to set a clearer vision for the upcoming generation.” “The monolith, which is raised at Ketsukeptsu Zho facing the radiance of sunrise, is an affirmation to the founding fathers’ vision of oneness and solidarity. I hope that the past, the present and the future inhabitants will continue to reflect this ethos as we journey towards a centenary and beyond, unveiling the manifold and wondrous blessings still in store for us,” writes former minister N. Theyo.
Earlier, Puracho unveiled the jubilee monolith. Ex-minister N. Theyo, Zachünü Keyho, Zapori Resüh, Zhovepra Rose, Sülüpo Thingo and Zaveyi Nyekha, District Education Officer, Kohima also spoke on the occasion while brief history of Chetheba was highlighted by Poi Rhakho. The function was chaired by Nükhoyi Medeo while ex-MLA Nüzota Swüro delivered welcome address. Vote of thanks was proposed by Selüpoyi Swiho, vice chairman, Chetheba Town Adhoc Committee. The function was followed by cultural extravaganza featuring Chesezu, Thenyizu, K. Basa, K. Bawe, Thipuzu and Phusachodu and concluded with community feast.
