State based NGO, Community Health Initiative (CHI) in collaboration with Centre for International Migration and Development (CIM) from Germany is embarking on building a network and find synergies where local NGOs and entrepreneurs can avail short term technical expertise or volunteers from Germany in strengthening their projects or business.
CIM is a joint operation of the German Development Agency (GIZ) and the German Federal Employment Agency. CHI focuses on improving health in the state and its mission is to provide innovative and evidence-based solutions to health as well as social challenges.
Speaking at a Networking Event programme at CHI Office, Dimapur on Tuesday, CIM Advisor, Richa Arora said the Center supports Indian diaspora from Germany wanting to return to the country either for long term or short term while continuing their association in Germany. She informed that the CIM was currently supporting 22 countries by acting as a bridge. Richa said CIM aims to bring minds and brains back home for progress and development of the community.
CHI Programme Leader, Dr. Rhondemo A. Kikon who has worked at certain interior areas of the state in the health sector identified factors related to low utilization of basic health services. Some of the factors he identified was limitations in government healthcare service delivery, shortage of skilled healthcare workers, absenteeism of health workers in rural areas, poor road transport etc. Established in 2012, he said that the CHI had so far impacted the lives of 600 medicinal plant farmers and also acquired manufacturing license of Rungying (medicinal plant) from Nagaland Government. “Our future goal is to generate local revenue and improve the socio economic status of farmers,” added Dr. Kikon who acquired experience from Germany.
