Chief Minister attends VG 'barakhana'

Kohima, January 27 (DIPR): In view of the Republic Day celebrations a 'barakhana' was held at the IG Stadium for the VG parade contingents at 6:00 pm on January 26, which was also attended by the Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio along with senior officers of the state including the chief secretary, Lalthara, ACS & commissioner Nagaland, Banuo Z. Jamir,  DGP Nagaland, Kire, ACS & Dev Commr, APC, H.K.Khulu and the home commissioner.
The ACS & commissioner Nagaland, Banuo Z. Jamir, who is also the commandant general of the VGs highlighted certain points and requirements of the VGs, particularly in regard to shortage of arms and ammunition due to non-availability from the ordinance factories and non-creation of posts in strategic areas. The chief minister assured the VGs that the PHQ would be requested to find sources for provision of sufficient arms to the VGs. He also assured that posts will be created wherever required after a proper study is carried out. He also gave a sum of
` 20,000/- to each of the VG contingents including the VG band party.
The chief minister also announced that with effect from December 2010, the government has agreed to increase the monthly honorarium of the VGs personnel from ` 500/- PM to
` 1500/- PM, a quantum leap of 300%.
Skits, folk songs and folk dances were presented by the VGs, the finale being the concert presented by the DGP Band.  All the VIPs, officers and staff and the VGs personnel interacted with each other and dined together later at the same venue.
Earlier on January 25, a medical camp was organized by the office of the commissioner Nagaland for the Village Guards contingent at Indira Gandhi Stadium  with the help of the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima and doctors from in and around Kohima. Altogether, 16 doctors conducted the medical camp and over 150 VG personnel were given check up. The office of the commissioner Nagaland also provided free medicines to all the VGs who attended the medical camp.
