Childline Dimapur rescues domestic child labour

Dimapur, September 14 (MExN): Following an anonymous call, CHILDLINE Dimapur has been successful in rescuing a boy from Tuensang district, employed as ‘domestic help’ at a house in Dimapur.  

A letter from Subonenba Longkumer, Nodal Director of CHILDLINE Dimapur, has informed that the boy (name and age undisclosed) was “was severely ill treated and beaten up by his owner regularly.” After receiving the information on September 12 and gathering the necessary details CHILDLINE team, along with the Women Cell Dimapur, rescued the child.

The child has stated that he was “made to do a lot of work and was beaten regularly for not doing his chores.” He also added that he wanted to go back to his village and his parents due to ill treatment. The child has been taken into the custody of CHILDLINE Dimapur and will be produced before the Child-welfare Committee, Dimapur for further hearing and necessary steps to be initiated.

CHILDLINE is a national, 24 hour, emergency phone outreach service for children in need of care and protection and is currently operational in 180 cities. It is a programme under the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development (GOI) in partnership with state governments, NGOs, bilateral/multilateral agencies, the corporate sector, concerned individuals and children.

CHILDLINE aims to reach out to the most marginalized children and provides interventions of shelter, medical, repatriation, rescue, death related, sponsorships, emotional support and guidance.
