Children reaching home on April 4

Dimapur, April 2 (MExN): The long wait for the repatriation of Naga children rescued from illegal children homes in Jaipur may be finally over. The Resident Commissioner of Nagaland House, New Delhi, Jyoti Kailash, in his conversation revealed that the children will leave Jaipur for Delhi April 3. The RC informed that all eight children will stay in Nagaland House while in Delhi and fly out to Nagaland on April 4. They will be accompanied by the Nagaland government officials.

The eight children reportedly from Peren district are among 51 children who were rescued from two unregistered shelter homes run by one Jacob John on March 12 in Jaipur. Some days later another two girls were also rescued from one of the homes, taking the total number to 53. The children rescued are mostly from the North East states and were reportedly taken to Jaipur with promises of education, food, and care. Majority of the children are reported to be from economically poor family.

However, according to media reports, when “Grace Home,” the home where the girls were kept was raided, about 30 girls were found living in one room with rotting vegetables and several liquor bottles and the home did not have a warden or a domestic help. It was further reported that the children were not sent to schools and starved at the homes and were also physically tortured. There were also reports of bodily deformities among the children owing to restricted movement. Some of the children had stayed in the homes for more than six years. According to reports, Jacob John was bailed out twice since his arrest, but is in judicial custody now. He is also accused of rape and molestation by two girls. Hence, an FIR has been lodged by the FXB India Suraksha, an NGO which assisted in the raid, against Jacob John and the case has been forwarded to the fast track court under non-bailable offence.
