Five villages including Chizami town under the banner of Chizami Range Public Organization (CRPO) today came in unison and celebrated Tsiikhenye festival with much pomp and traditional gaiety at Chizami Village under Phek district. Attired in traditional fineries, they joined the festivities under the motto “Progress through unity.”
Speaking on the occasion as the guest speaker, K.G. Kenye, MP Rajya Sabha, urged the people to inculcate the traditional values and ethos and also to uphold the rich culture of our ancestors. He also lauded the pioneers who are behind the formation of CRPO and further urged the present CRPO leaders to be more dedicated and work sincerely for the security and welfare of the area.
He said the five villages comprising of Chizami, Sümi, Thetsümi, Enhulumi and Mesulumi together with people from Chizami Town living together in unity is a true symbol of Chakhesang unity.
He said the people from the area lived together in peace and they must hold the Chakhesangs together at any cost because breaking ourselves into smaller groups will only make us more insignificant and powerless.
Stating that Chakhesangs became a tribe not by birth but by choice through the wisdom of our pioneering leaders, he said “Let us keep up the unity and preserve the integrity of our tribe.”
We must respect, develop and keep the unity of Phek district, he added.
Expressing deep concern over the high volume of spreading propaganda across social media, Kenye urged for dissemination of factual and correct information.
Also stressing on the need to do away with isms, he called upon the people to maintain the feeling of oneness and fight together against the evil forces that may come our way.
Kenye also informed that the 2-lane road between Kohima to Chizami has been approved by the Govt. of India and expressed that it will facilitate goods transportation when completed.
Parliamentary Secretary for Higher and Technical Education Deo Nukhu in his solidarity message said that progress will come when there is unity and peace among the communities.
In this, he called on the people of Chizami range to have better understanding and continue to sow the seeds of unity to generate healthy atmosphere in the society, which would also have a good impact on the next generation as well.
Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) president Kekhwengulo Lea also shared greetings on the occasion.
The gathering endorsed the resolution of the CRPO consultative meeting held on April 21, which resolved to maintain peace and tranquility, to protect and preserve the forest biodiversity, and to strengthen and develop Chizami headquarter.
