Chümoukedima: Highland Hall School upgraded to Hr Sec level

Highland Hall School located at Naga United Village, Chümoukedima held its commemoration celebration of the school being upgraded to a higher secondary school (10+2) on November 19, with Minister for PHED, Jacob Zhimomi being invited as the chief guest. 

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister congratulated the administration and management of the school for their persistent efforts in improving the standard of the school. “I’m sure you have struggled a lot in the beginning but we can see the fruits of it today,” he said. 

“The greatest asset we have is our children. So there is nothing like investing in our children through providing them with good education.” As the Central government had recently introduced the National Education Policy, which seeks to provide gross enrolment in schools and colleges, the scenario has been changing for the better he noted. 

With regard to the state of Nagaland, it has a high literacy rate however it faces a huge challenge with unemployment. For which the government has been making every possible effort to provide employment opportunities to the youths. Remarking that as the state has officially constituted the Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB) to overlook the appointment process of Grade-III and above, Minister for PHED, Jacob Zhimomi said, “don’t come to politicians for any appointment now. We cannot give you any appointment; they have to appear for examination and it is going to be on the basis of merit.” As such, he appealed to the people to put in more individual effort from now onwards. “I used to personally receive a lot of applicants from parents to give appointment for their children,” he claimed. 

Besides he mentioned that the government trying to upgrade and improve the water supply in the state through functional household tap connection to all the rural villages including in Naga United colony, along with promising to improve the road connectivity in the area. 

Earlier, welcome address by given by school administrator, Kezhaleno Angami while the programme saw a host of colourful performances by students of the school. 

Speech on behalf of Naga United Village Council was said by Chairperson, Reyopoyi Nyekha, who highlighted the concerns of the village in relation to water supply, electricity and road connectivity.
