Dimapur, December 16 (MExN): Governor of Maharashtra SC Jamir on Sunday said that Christmas means love, forgiveness, reconciliation and peace. “It means crowning of Jesus Christ in one's heart.” Mentioning that Jesus showed forgiveness towards even those who tried to kill him, Jamir asserted that the message of peace given by Jesus Christ is ever new, real and sorely needed by today's world torn by violence.
Jamir was speaking at the Prabhu Yeshu Janmotsav (celebration of the birthday of Jesus Christ) organized by the Bishop's Fellowship and the Prabhu Yeshu Janmotsav Committee at Girgaum Chopatty in Mumbai on Sunday evening. More than a thousand people were in attendance at the annual event. This year's celebrations, held in the backdrop of the recent terrorist attack in Mumbai, was simple and without any pomp or glitter.
Paying tributes to the innocent people, policemen, officers, commandos, foreigners and others who lost their lives in the 26/11 Mumbai ‘mindless terrorist violence’ Jamir said nothing can fill the void caused by the death of these people, especially for their near and dear ones. Speaking to the gathering Jamir said, “Jesus - the Savior - was born to bring peace on earth, to spread the good will among people and to bring glory to God in the highest.” He said it pleases God when there is peace and goodwill among men.
The Governor and other dignitaries released pigeons on this occasion and candles were lit to remember those who lost their lives at the Mumbai carnage. Archbishop of Mumbai Cardinal Oswald Gracias, US Consul in Mumbai Glenn, Chairman of the Yeshu Janmotsav Committee Dr Abraham Mathai, General Secretary Dr Victor Gollapalli, Gul Kripalani and other eminent people were present on the occasion.
