Chungtia Village Council celebrated Moatsü Festival at the GMS Sabangya Playground, Chungtia on May 3.

The Chungtia Village Council hosted the celebration of the Moatsü Festival on May 3 at the GMS Sabangya Playground, Chungtia, with Metsübo Jamir, Minister for Rural Development and SIRD, gracing the occasion as guest of honour.
In his address, Minister Metsübo Jamir expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Chungtia Village Council for their warm hospitality, saying he felt like “a son of the soil.” Jamir highlighted his commitment to assist with various projects for the village and pledged full cooperation with community initiatives.
Focusing on the region’s agricultural potential, the minister urged the villagers to actively engage in farming, noting that the fertile soil of Chungtia is ideal for cultivating diverse crops. Reflecting on the traditional spirit of Moatsü as a time to seek blessings for a good harvest, he encouraged the community to now pray for youth with bountiful talents who would remain rooted in the village and contribute to its growth and prosperity.
The festival was marked by various cultural and sporting events. A special song dedicated to the Guest of Honour was performed by the women of Chungtia, followed by various cultural dances and traditional games. In the Tug-of-War finals, Sabangya clinched victory in the women’s category, while Longtsüktep triumphed in the men’s category.
The celebration also featured stalls showcasing and selling local produce and crafts, including fresh cucumbers and handwoven silk textiles, promoting local entrepreneurship in the region.
Earlier in the programme, Assamwati Longchar, Chairman of Chungtia Village Council, delivered the welcome address, while Anang Kichu highlighted the cultural and historical significance of the Moatsü Festival.
