Church, civil societies strengthen health systems in Aboi town

AASU urges government to deploy sufficient manpower at CHC Aboi 

Aboi, June 15 (MExN): The newly constructed front porch of Community Health Centre (CHC) Aboi and flower garden was dedicated on June 14 last.

The front porch has been constructed as part of the community contribution by Aboi Town Baptist Church (ATBC) under the guidance of Rev Yeangphong Konyak.

The flower garden has been initiated and maintained by ATBC Youth Department under the Youth Director, Youngtok.

A brief dedication and thanksgiving programme was held at CHC Aboi in presence of Health Centre Management Committee, Aboi with ADC Chumlamo Humtsoe as chairman and other NGOs leaders.

Dr Neiphrezo Sorünuo, SMO I/c thanked the churches, civil societies and well-wishers of Aboi town for responding positively to the call for community participation to strengthen the health system.

Stating that government cannot always spoon feed its people, he said that each and every individual has to play important role in bringing about change and progressive society.

He informed that so far the health centre has seen a huge overall improvement through the activities under Nagaland Health Project and especially from the active participation of the community, support from local MLA and donations from the well-wishers.

The medical staff of CHC has been actively conducting social work, cleanliness drive and also donated items each as per his/her capabilities.

“There is still shortage of manpower in terms of medical officers and nurses for which time and again appeal has been made to the health department for timely intervention,” he said.

Aboi Area Students’ Union (AASU) led by its president Mankhat Konyak gave away certificate of appreciation to Dr Neiphrezo for his selfless service for the community. 

The Union thanked Dr Neiphrezo for his good initiative and works done at CHC besides his normal duty. AASU also donated Rs 10,000 to CHC Aboi and appreciated the staff for their dedication and selfless service inspite of shortage of manpower at the Centre.

The AASU, President also talked on the topic ‘importance of health management and infrastructure.’

AASU stated that CHC Aboi has shortages of manpower such that SMO was not appointed two years back. At present, the CHC is now running with two MOs (Dentist and GDMO) and five staff nurse and one ANM. 

All the staffs are performing their duty 24X7, according to AASU.

“Mostly during this pandemic, we are in need of manpower to strengthen the health care sector and for smooth function of our health centre. Therefore, AASU urged the Government of Nagaland and Department of Health and Family Welfare to deploy sufficient manpower to handle the situation of positive cases as there were death casualty already due to COVID-19 at Aboi town,” stated AASU.
