M. Wonthungo Tsopoe, Deputy Director, School Education addressing the seminar held at Shaki village.

Kohima: A seminar for church leaders and village council members was successfully organized by Shaki Baptist Church on Saturday at Shaki village under Wokha district. The main objective of the seminar was to familiarize the church leaders and village council members about the importance of team work and to work together for all round development and common interest of the community.

Speaking on the occasion as resource person, M. Wonthungo Tsopoe, Deputy Director, School Education pointed out that church leaders and the village council members are the main channel to build the village as well as to bring the villagers closer. He added blame game should not be there amongst them but they should be farsighted and address the social problems together.

Stating that village is the root of a nation; he said it is like a kingdom having everything in it. In this, he encouraged the church leaders and village council members to think locally and act globally.

To bring about socio-economic change in the lives of the rural poor, the government is extending several welfare measures to alleviate poverty, he said and asked the gathering to play effective role to bring about progress and development.

Maintaining the lack of creating awareness of the welfare schemes as the major hurdles in translating the real packages of development, he called upon the village leaders to organize seminar by inviting resource persons to give a talk on various schemes once in a year.  He also cited an example of Chakhesang community in imposing ban on import of pork meat from outside the district. Through this, the district has become self sufficient in meat production, he said. Earlier, Rev. S. Thungrio Khuvung, Asst. Pastor, Wokha Town Baptist Church dwelt on the important role of church leaders and village council.
