Churches unite to fight against drugs and alcohol

The women department of the three churches - Longkhim Town Sangtam Baptist Lithro, Ao Baptist Church and Police Baptist Church in Longkhim under Tuensang district organized a rally against drugs and alcohol.  

The rally was held with the support from administrative body Longkhim, churches and village councils of the neighboring villages, women wing and general public of Longkhim town at Traffic point, Longkhim Town on October 27.  

Quoting Napoleon Bonaparte, “Give me good mothers and I shall give you a good nation,” Kikumsangla, ADC Longkhim, opined that generally mothers are a big influence in our lives as we spend most of our time with her. “If we talk about role of women in combating drugs and alcohol, we might conclude that women play the key role,” she stated while adding that selling and consumption of alcohol and drugs is liable for fine and imprisonment and the defaulters, therefore from a legal point of view should be awarded with befitting punishment.  

Hongcho, President, Phir Ahi, Holongba, Sangso & New Sangso area (PHSNS) and Chumhomong, Head Dobashi, Longkhim Town, who also spoke at the rally, encouraged the participants to jointly fight against this ‘monster’ and make Longkhim town a beautiful and developed land.  

Chumpongse, Principal, Oriental Theological College brought out Biblical-ethical response to alcoholism. Alcoholic and Drug addicts are persons who need acceptance and healing, cited Dr. Sevilo MO, PHC Angangba in his talk on ‘Alcohol & Drugs abuse’ from a medical point of view.  

The other panel of speakers who emphasized on giving practical measures and suggestions were Thsadila, President, Akehta Sangtamlarü Thsingmüjang and Thrikyüse, President United Sangtam Students’ Conference. Thsadila called upon the people and specially the women folk to tirelessly work for the cause of the people and reassured that the truth will triumph over evils and vices. Aprie, Women Secretary, United Sangtam Baptist Kingkularü Ashimükhong pronounced resounding statements from the biblical character of Abigial. Calling upon the mothers, she encouraged the mothers to be sensitive and intelligent in her role of fighting against alcohol and drugs.

  Alemla Yangli, a core member of the organizing committee led the intercessory prayer session which was followed by voicing out slogan. The organizer further thanked the administrative organ, church leaders, council leaders, participants in the programme and general public for making the program a successful.
