Since November 2016, SABAK (Sumi Aphuyemi Baptist Akukuhou Kuqhakulu) Mission Centre, Pughoboto as a part of its mission initiative has started some unique projects for its youth.
The Youth Ministry under SABAK has begun giving driving lessons to youth under its fold with a mission to impart life skills which could assist them to make a career as well as help in times of emergency.
Talking to The Morung Express, Hokato Furthena, SABAK Youth Secretary informed that driving classes are given for one-month where the trainees learn basic driving skills. So far 53 people have been trained under the project. Some are working as drivers and some running taxi services, Hokato added.
A committee was formed to undertake the project, and currently they impart the classes, he said.
Apart from driving, the trainees also learn about basic mechanism of a vehicle; different parts and simple repairing; and traffic rules. Under a programme called ‘Sustainable Livelihood Project,’ the Council is also making an earnest attempt to help its youth take up entrepreneurship by giving them a foundation to start their business or career, other than the government sector.
The basic idea of the project is to help the youth gain an initial foothold while starting a new venture, the Youth Secretary said.
After taking into account its viability, the church provided the initial ‘seed money’ to start their business or venture, it was informed.
While still in initial phase, the Youth Secretary hoped that with such initiatives, the Church could make an impact in a youth’s life and apart from the spiritual mission, it could also be a source and enabler of livelihood for its congregation.
