CIH kicks off 3-day training for Noklak’s 'food processing enthusiast'

MEDZIPHEMA, September 22 (MExN): A 3-day on campus training on “Prospects of Food Processing & Entrepreneurship” kicked off at the Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Medziphema, Nagaland on September 22. 

The training for “processing enthusiast of Noklak district” is being organised with an aim to boost the potential of value added products from the fruits and vegetables available in the region, a CIH release informed. 

Resource persons with expertise in the field of food processing, honey processing and marketing of such value added products will be giving hands on training to the trainees from Noklak district, it said. 

Altogether 9 trainees have been chosen to undergo the 3-day training concluding on September 24. 

Noklak has recently inaugurated a Food processing unit and CIH intends to assist the people of the district by giving them technical support in the field of food processing and post harvest management, the release said. 

The training has also been organised in commemoration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the 75 years of progressive India.

Inaugurating the training, the Additional Horticulture Commissioner & Director in-charge CIH, Government of India, Dr NK Patle emphasized on taking up food processing as a means to elevate the socio-economic status of the people and also to prevent post harvest losses. 

He also encouraged the trainees to undertake the training with full sincerity and dedication, so that they can go back to their native places and become master trainers for their people, the release added.

Earlier, the training started with a brief introduction about the Institute and its activities by Vinika K Aomi, Post Harvest Technologist and the inaugural programme ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Mhasizotuo, Senior Technical Assistant.
