CIH Nagaland and NBB hold workshop  on promoting bee-keeping in North East

Dimapur, September 15 (MExN):  With objective of the bringing bee-keepers and experts together in a common platform and create awareness various issues related with bee-keeping, the  Central Institute of Horticulture, Nagaland in collaboration with National Bee Board conducted a virtual workshop on September 14. 

The workshop titled, “Promotion of Bee-Keeping in Northeast & Himalayan Region” was aimed at sensitising on policies of National Beekeeping & Honey Mission (NBHM) and discussing promotion as well as further improvement of honey sector in the two regions. 

A press release informed that programme was virtually attended by more than 300 participants.

Dr. Abhilaksh Likhi, Additional Secretary Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India, in his key note address, appreciated the efforts of the institute for organising the workshop and emphasised on utilising the benefits of schemes under NHBM. 

He also stressed on the importance of capacity building and developing more start ups in honey industry. 

Providing an overview of NHBM, its Mission Director, Dr SK Malhotra, Agriculture and Horticulture Commissioner, DA&FW also stressed on the need of testing labs for quality honey production. 

Dr. NK Patle Addl. Commissioner (Hort.) DA&FW and Executive Director, National Bee Board, elaborated on the guidelines of NBHM and also explained about the mini missions and the online registration process for bee-keepers in Madhukranti portal.

During the technical session the resource persons discussed and interacted with participants on topics such as: -creation of FPOs, establishment of Integrated Bee Keeping Development Centers and scenario of bee-keeping in Nagaland. The invited resource persons were representatives from NAFED and Indian Bank, Nodal officer, Nagaland Beekeeping & Honey Mission and Deputy Director (Hort.), Integrated Beekeeping Development Centre, Haryana. 

Beekeepers and honey entrepreneurs from across Northeast and Himalayan region also shared their experiences and showcased their products during the inaugural programme, the release added.
