Citizens repair damaged Wokha district hospital road

Members from a local WhatsApp community came together to construct a temporary passage to the damaged Wokha district hospital road.

WOKHA, JULY 20 (MExN): A group of local residents in Wokha have come together to construct a temporary passage over a caved-in section of road leading to the District Hospital, which had remained in disrepair for over five months.

The damaged stretch had severely hampered access to the hospital, posing challenges to patients, emergency services, and hospital staff.

The residents, who are members of a local WhatsApp community mobilised resources and built a makeshift 20-by-7-foot steel structure to restore connectivity. Though limited in scope, the temporary fix has enabled light vehicles to access the hospital, providing critical relief to the public.

According to sources, the Department of Urban Development has already sanctioned the road from Wokha Police Point to the District Hospital. However, construction has been delayed due to persistent monsoon rains, with contractors citing unfavourable weather conditions for the postponement.
