Reiterating CPI’s firm stand against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, CPI National Secretary, Vinay Biswam has said that “it should be thrown into the dustbin”.
The sitting Rajya Sabha member is currently camping in Imphal and taking part in the campaign against the Bill being spearheading by nine political parties - CPI, CPI (M), AAP, NCP, RSP, PRJA, JDS, BSP and FB. He had taken part in a protest rally on the streets in Imphal organised by the nine parties yesterday (Saturday). On Sunday, he addressed a news conference in Imphal’s Irawat Bhavan where Biswam reiterated CPI’s firm stand against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.
The CPI leader said, “Citizenship (Amendment) Bill is anti-people, it is draconian in nature, it should be thrown into the dustbin”. He also said that his party, CPI, was well aware of the sentiments of people of Manipur and Northeast states and why they were standing against the contentious and “unconstitutional” Bill.
CPI will take an active role in preventing passing of the Bill by the Parliament and lobbying other likeminded parties to defeat the Bill if introduce in the Rajya Sabha for passing.
Reiterating that the CAB is anti-national, anti-people and unconstitutional, the communist leader alleged that the Bill is not meant for the Indian citizens but to divide the people of the country on communal lines. Despite knowing the fact, BJP was efforting to enforce the Bill as an Act only to serve the purpose of RSS, making the country a land of Hindus, he alleged. "BJP must know that India is made up of various communities which follow various religions and people of Northeast region will not stay silent if the BJP-led NDA government acts against their wishes," he added. The CPI leader then warned that if the Bill if comes into force as an Act, it will lead to breaking the country.
Biswam asserted that people of Northeast have now realised the mistake they had committed by voting in favour of BJP. They have now seen the real face and intention of the BJP and RSS.
