City-Centre, Star-Hotel plan for Kohima

KOHIMA, MAY 30 (DIPR): The old Secretariat and old Assembly Secretariat complex, situated in the heart of Kohima town will be converted into a city-centre.

This was decided at the State Level Programme Implementation Committee (SLPIC) meeting held on May 24 under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio. The meeting also decided to convert the old MLA Hostel into a star hotel.

The city-centre will include proper provision for car-parking without destroying the standing trees in the complex. The existing offices in the old Secretariat complex should be shifted out by end of March 2008. The SLPIC also decided that an alternative site for Congress Bhavan shall have to be located by the district administration in consultation with the Congress party.

The Urban Development department will expedite the preparation of Detailed Project Report for the city-centre through expert consultation and the Tourism department will issue tenders through wide publicity to invite bids for running the star hotel in the building and premises of the old MLA Hostel.

It was also decided that the Mini Tool Room Centre of the Industries and Commerce department at Dimapur would be handed over to Nagaland University, initially for a period of 3 (three) years, for immediately starting  a faculty for Engineering Sciences. The Industries and Commerce department will sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Nagaland University for handing over of the property on priority.

The meeting also discussed at length the construction of residential quarters for the ministers in the new complex area on priority.

The Urban Development department, Land Revenue department and Deputy Commissioner, Kohima were asked to jointly verify availability of suitable site, both out of government’s land and private land and submit report within a month’s time including requirement of fund for acquisition of land from private parties if any.

On acquisition of land for Chiethu airport near Chiechama in Kohima district, the SLPIC constituted a five-member Committee for negotiation of the rates of the land compensation and for working out the rehabilitation package wherever required. The committee will be headed by Additional Chief Secretary & Commissioner, Nagaland.
