Claim of manipulation, favoritism in Law deptt

Dimapur, June 11 (MExN): The Law & Justice department is accused of manipulation and favoritism with a recent instance being that of an official recommending her husband to the post of DC (Judicial) over others in the seniority list.

A brief letter addressed to the chief minister of Nagaland from two law students sought the government’s action into the alleged favoritism, nepotism, manipulation in “your own department”, the Law & Justice department. With the letter was also a copy of the seniority list of judicial officers.

“As per file no. LAW/JE-/03 Post Creation/Upgradation of DC (Judicial)/appointment of GLR/Law Department 5/6/03, the state government through a cabinet decision has recommended upgradation of DC Judicial in Kohima and Mokokchung only.

However, in spite of financial crisis, the junior cadres who hid the files, have recently recommended upgradation of 8 posts of DC (J) without taking the concern of the senior persons or the department,” the letter stated.

The Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench, had asked the Registrar, about the seniority list for recommendation for promotion and posting. “But instead of giving the actual facts and figures of the seniority list, the Registrar recommended her husband (who is in serial no. 8 of seniority list) for appointment to Deputy Commissioner (Judicial),” the letter said.

With such favoritism and manipulation in the department, Law students have totally lost faith in the functioning of the Law & Justice department of Nagaland, the students lamented. The chief minister is requested to intervene in the matter at the earliest and see that the bias in appointments are not implemented in the very department which is supposed to dispense justice to the people.

“We also appeal the court to kindly take note of such happenings in the Law and Justice Department and acquire accurate and actual figures and lists of officers for promotion and other related exercises to the state government and not through any individual,” the students added.
