Dimapur, May 1 (MExN): A press release issued by former leaders of youth and students’ organizations in Phek today cast doubts on activities related to the construction of a road in Chozuba and has sought clarifications from the chief engineer for Roads & Bridges. Former presidents of Chozuba Area Sports Association, Chozubami Youth Association, Khusomi Students’ Union, Chozubami Students’ Union and Chozuba Platform issued the letter today seeking clarifications from the department.
The letter cited reliable sources that “certain letter” from the Ministry of DoNER dated March 16, 2011 was received by the Government of Nagaland on March 28, 2011. The government letter was regarding construction of a new road from Chozuba border road to Kijumetouma via Khuso. The letter noted that the department of PWD proposal was conveyed to the chief minister on March 31, 2011. The strange timing was noted by the organizations who questioned the “shortest duration” of one day, April 1 2011, to complete formalities, plan discussions with the CE (R&B), PWD etc. Then the work was issued to one firm for execution of the road project. The chief engineer is asked to reply how all the official formalities were observed within one day and the day when approval was given to an “EE Design”.
“It is obvious that their sole aim was to hoodwink the ignorant villagers to their advantage,” the organizations stated. An example of the faith of the ignorant villagers being exploited was reflected in the inaugural function on April 2, 2011, the letter said. The organizations have implied action and blacklisting those firms in question for the stated actions of breaking the trust of the government, hoodwinking villagers and so on. The chief engineer’s action is sought for, into the issue.
