CLP leader barred from entering native village

Dimapur, November 13 (MExN):  The village Council Changki (VCC) and the Changki Asem Senso Mongdang (CAASM) have resolved to close down the village gates (Sungkum) during the forthcoming general elections in pursuance of the decision to bar Congress Legislature Party leader, I Imkong MLA, of the Emremchangki clan including other members residing outside the village, from entering the village jurisdiction, besides barring any member of the Changki village from supporting I Imkong in the forthcoming general election.

A joint release issued by VCC Chairman, Limameri Amri, GB and Imlimeren Amri, President of the CAASM further stated that any member of the village supporting I Imkong will be expelled along with their families from the village for a period of ten years. The CAASM also resolved that it would support any other candidate other than the Opposition Leader during the forthcoming Assembly election.

According to the statement, the resolutions were adopted at a joint meeting of the VCC and CAASM held on November 9 where the case of I Imkong and the Emremchangki clan was discussed.

It pointed out that I Imkong and those of his clan living outside the village have been debarred from entering Changki village for defying the decision of the CASSM by refusing to pay citizenship fees and other collections for the past seven years. It said I Imkong and some of his clansmen had been expelled from the Senso for their defiance in February 2006.

Further the VCC has extended the period for payment of village citizenship fee etc by those Emremchangki clansmen to February 2008 and failing which they will not be allowed to enter or stay in the village. Even access to water facilities or use of traditional village roads including cultivation will be barred.

However, those of the Emremchangki clan who have accepted the decision of the Senso and also paid citizenship fees will continue to enjoy all rights and privileges as Changki citizens.

Through another statement, the VCC and CAASM have also summoned I Wabang to the village for ‘making false allegations against the Changki village council including a senior officer from the village which appeared in a local daily on November 9.

The two bodies also charged Wabang of ‘seriously denigrating’ the name of the CAASM and the Changki village in questioning the decision to close the village gates during the meeting. They said this was done since no ‘alien or non citizens are permitted to remain inside the village’ during the meeting of the Senso. The to bodies said it was mandatory for all Changki citizens be it Governor, or Chief Minister, MLAs or public leaders or government officers to compulsorily attend the village meeting or else face imposition of fine.
