
Kohima, January 29 (MExN): Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has expressed pain over the demise of former Union Minister and veteran parliamentarian George Fernandes who passed away on January 29, at the age of 88. A condolence message stated that Late Fernandes was a dynamic Trade Union Leader and always stood for the rights of the poor and the downtrodden. He was also an able administrator and excelled in the Ministries he handled. His contribution in the Ministries of Railways, Defence, Communications and Industry will be remembered for a long time to come. Rio further said he is “remembered for his fight and struggle against the Emergency and for his significant contribution for restoration of democracy in our country.” He was also known for his writings and journalism. Rio conveyed deepest condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
Y Patton: The Deputy Chief Minister and BJP Legislature Party leader of Nagaland, Y Patton has expressed sadness on the demise. A condolence message issued by Media Cell, Deputy Chief Minister stated that he will be always remembered for being among the tallest leaders in Indian political affairs.
“As a doyen politician, he exercised ample influence in resisting the Emergency tooth and nail. “His contribution in shaping our great nation is immense and the whole nation feels the void left by his demise and the vacuum created by him would be difficult to fill.” The BJP legislators of Nagaland conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
