CM making ‘joke’ of cabinet decision: Congress

Kohima, May 6 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Tuesday expressed disapproval of Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio’s recent remarks regarding the revocation of regularization orders for 147 assistant professors and librarians.

In a press statement, the NPCC said it was “dismayed” by the Chief Minister’s comments during a visit to Mokokchung, where he reportedly stated that the decision to revoke the appointments was based on the Interim Report of the High Powered Committee (HPC), and that a final decision would be made only after the submission of the HPC’s Final Report.

“If the earlier flip-flop decisions of the Nagaland Cabinet were not enough, the Chief Minister has reduced the Cabinet decision to a joke by taking shelter under a committee constituted by it,” the NPCC said, calling the statement “an added insult to those aspirants seeking justice.”

The party also criticized what it described as shifting positions by the state government. “NPCC wishes to remind the Chief Minister that heading an opposition-less government does not entitle him to keep shifting the goalposts and make a mockery of having a Cabinet meeting without being serious about the decisions taken,” the statement read.

The revocation of the regularization order has sparked protests and condemnation from student bodies and civil society organizations, who have demanded accountability and transparency in public recruitment.
