CM Rio, others mourn demise of NDPP President's wife Nokpangmenla

DIMAPUR, May 8 (MExN): Nokpangmenla Chingwang (Amenla), the wife of Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) President Chingwang Konyak, passed away today in Guwahati.

Late Amenla, aged 75, is survived by her husband, three daughters, one son, and three grandchildren.

As per reports, her funeral service will be held from 9:00 AM on May 9 at Pudumpukhri, Lane-2, Dimapur.

Meanwhile, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang, along with various political leaders and organisations, have expressed grief and extended their condolences on the passing of late Amenla.

They remembered her dedication, grace, and kindness, noting that she leaves behind an irreplaceable void in the lives of her family, friends, and the wider community. 

They also prayed that the Almighty grant the family strength and solace to endure this loss, and that her soul may rest in eternal peace.

CM Rio: Extending his condolences, CM Rio paid tribute to late Amenla as a steadfast pillar of strength for her family—as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

“She stood by my dear friend and colleague, Chingwang Konyak, with quiet strength and unwavering support throughout his distinguished public service career spanning over five decades,” he said.

He described the close and cherished bond shared between their families and noted that her warmth, generosity, and affectionate nature would be fondly remembered and deeply missed.

“Though her absence leaves an irreplaceable void, we find comfort in celebrating her remarkable life,” CM Rio added, while also conveying his family's condolences to the bereaved.

TR Zeliang: Deputy CM, in his condolences, noted that late Amenla was the foundation upon which Chingwang thrived throughout his long and distinguished political career.

“She will be profoundly missed, leaving behind a lasting legacy of love, affection, and empathy. May her memory live on in her children and grandchildren, reflecting the remarkable life she lived,” he added, conveying his family's condolences and prayer of solace.

MP S Supongmeren Jamir: Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha, S Supongmeren Jamir also remembered late Amenla as a kind, gentle, and dignified woman who stood as a strong support to her family.

Her untimely demise is a great loss not only to her family and loved ones but also to all those who knew her personally, he added, conveying prayers for strength and peace to the bereaved family.

CL John: Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change and Village Guard, CL John also paid tribute to late Amenla as a sincere, responsible, and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who stood as a strong pillar behind her husband’s long public service career. He conveyed condolences on behalf of his family and prayed for peace and solace to the bereaved family.

Eastern Konyak Union: The Eastern Konyak Union Advisory Board also mourned the demise, expressing heartfelt condolences to NDPP President Chingwang and his family. Though unable to attend the funeral, the Union conveyed its sorrow and prayed for strength, comfort, and peace for the bereaved.

Janata Dal (United) Nagaland: The Janata Dal (United) Nagaland also conveyed its condolences to Chingwang and his family. “Her memory will remain cherished, and her presence will be dearly missed by all who knew her,” it added.

NDPP: The rank and file of the NDPP also grieved the demise and paid tribute to late Amenla as the strongest support, friend, confidante, and guide of NDPP President Chingwang throughout his tumultuous political journey.

Erudite and gracious, she was a perfect host, making everyone feel both comfortable and valued. Party members saw her as a motherly figure and will deeply miss her presence, the NDPP said, extending condolences and prayers.

NPF: The Naga People’s Front (NPF) party paid tribute to the late Amenla as a woman of admirable dignity, warmth, and quiet strength. 

She embodied grace and fortitude, providing steadfast support not only to her family but also to the many lives she touched with kindness and humility, it said.

Her passing is an irreparable loss not only to her immediate family but also to the wider Naga community, the NPF added, offering its solidarity and prayers to the bereaved family.

S Richard Humtsoe: National Secretary, Lok Janshakti Party (Ramvilas), S Richard Humtsoe also highlighted late Amenla’s warmth, kindness, and compassion.

May her legacy of love and kindness continue to inspire those who were touched by her life, he added.
