The new office building of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) was inaugurated by Advisor for Labour and Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Excise, Moatoshi Longkumer at Medical colony, Dimapur on October 31.
Prior to the construction, the old office building had been in an extremely deplorable state leading to the medical staffs being temporarily housed at the Ayhush Mission centre, stated Dr Limatula Aier CMO. This was during the early period of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. Faced with several challenges, she mentioned that proper construction could begin only in May 2022.
The new building has a total of 39 rooms including conference hall and disable friendly facilities.

Besides this, the CMO shared on the challenges faced by the authority in having to oversee three districts. So far, Chümoukedima and Niuland districts were yet to receive their own CMO offices. This places an extra burden on the authorities of Dimapur to conduct monthly sub-committee meetings for each district along with taking up issues on day to day affairs, she explained.
Longkumer meanwhile in his speech stated that “this building stands as a testament to our commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of our people, ensuring that every citizen has access to coordinated, effective, and compassionate care.”
“Dimapur, as we know, has long been a hub for healthcare services in Nagaland. People from every corner of the state come here seeking medical attention, often traveling long distances to access quality care,” he added.
Keeping this mind, he noted on the need for robust administrative support to ensure that services are delivered efficiently and equitably.

“It is here that critical decisions will be made, health programs will be planned, and resources will be managed, all with the aim of providing the best possible care to our communities,” he said.
The Advisor also stressed that quality and affordable healthcare in Nagaland is felt deeply across communities, especially those vulnerable groups. “Many of our citizens struggle to access basic medical services and often face the challenge of high treatment costs,” he noted. As such, “it is our responsibility to create a healthcare environment that prioritizes both quality and affordability,” he reminded the medical staffs.
With this new facility, it will enable the department to respond more effectively to health crises, improve preventive care, he highlighted. “This is crucial in our journey to build a healthier, stronger Nagaland,” Longkumer said.
