CNSA raises concern on illegal migrants

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 16 (MExN): The Central Naga Students’ Association (CNSA) has raised concerns about the ongoing political turmoil in Bangladesh, which they said could lead to a significant influx of migrants into India's northeastern region, particularly Nagaland. The CNSA warned that this situation could have socio-economic and cultural impacts on the local population if not addressed promptly.

According to a press release from the CNSA, districts like Mokokchung, Wokha, Niuland, and Dimapur, which share borders with Assam, are particularly vulnerable. Assam has been continually struggling with the influx of illegal migrants from Bangladesh, and there is concern that Nagaland could face similar challenges, it stated.

The CNSA emphasized the potential dangers of such an influx, noting that it could create tensions between communities and possibly lead to social unrest. It called for a collaborative effort between the state government and central agencies to bolster security along the border and prevent illegal crossings. The association stressed the importance of implementing a comprehensive identification and registration system, particularly through the rigorous enforcement of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) for all migrants. "It is imperative to educate the local population about the legal and social implications of the influx of illegal migrants to ensure community cooperation in addressing this issue," the CNSA stated.

The association expressed confidence that with proactive measures, the state could effectively manage the situation and prevent further influx of illegal migrants. They urged the state government, particularly the Home Department, to prioritize this matter and take necessary actions to safeguard the interests of the state and its people.
