Dr William Westerman, a Fulbright-Nehru Scholar for 2024 and Associate Professor at New Jersey City University, USA, delivers a special lecture organised by the Centre for Naga Tribal Language Studies and the Department of English, Nagaland University Kohima Campus on May 21.

Kohima, May 26 (MExN): The Centre for Naga Tribal Language Studies (CNTLS), in collaboration with the Department of English, Nagaland University Kohima Campus, organised a special lecture on May 21 titled, “Decolonising Folklore Research: An Introduction” by Dr William Westerman, a Fulbright-Nehru Scholar for 2024 and Associate Professor at New Jersey City University, USA.
The lecture centered the necessity to decolonise folklore research methodologies, stressing the importance of acknowledging indigenous perspectives and narratives within academic discourse.
Dr Westerman’s insights offered valuable perspectives on transcending colonial frameworks in folklore research, advocating for more inclusive and authentic representations of indigenous cultures, informed a press release.
Prof Nigamanand Das, NU Head of the Department of English stated that the well-attended lecture sparked insightful discussions and reflections on academia's role in the broader decolonisation movement.
The collaboration between the CNTLS and the Department of English signifies a significant step towards fostering academic growth and cultural understanding within Nagaland University, the release added.
