Collective action for malaria-free Nagaland stressed at NHAK World Malaria Day event

Kohima, April 26 (MExN): The observance of World Malaria Day at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima on April 25 underscored the importance of collective action and sustained efforts to combat malaria and achieve a malaria-free Nagaland.

The programme was organised by the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme under the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland at the Lecture Hall of Naga Hospital Authority Kohima under the theme “Drive to End Malaria: Now We Can. Now We Must.”

Delivering the welcome address, Dr Imotemsu highlighted the importance of collective action and sustained efforts in combating malaria in the state.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr Imnapokim, who stressed the urgency of accelerating interventions, strengthening surveillance systems and ensuring community participation to achieve malaria elimination goals.

He also highlighted the newly operational 24x7 control room for vector-borne diseases (7630932527), stating that it would play a crucial role in ensuring timely intervention and advancing malaria prevention and elimination initiatives.

A technical presentation on the Malaria Scenario in Kohima District (March 2023 to March 2026) was delivered by Emisenla, VBD Consultant, Kohima. The presentation reviewed trends, progress made, key challenges and strategies for strengthening malaria control measures in the district.

The event was chaired by Imsubenla, Public Health and Training Consultant (NVBDCP) ahnd concluded with a vote of thanks by Ngangnenmongba Longkumer, Monitoring and Evaluation Consultant (NVBDCP), who expressed gratitude to dignitaries, participants and staff for their support and active involvement.

As part of the observance, the State NVBDCP team also visited Good Samaritan Senior Citizens’ Home. During the visit, Dr Imnapokim conducted an awareness session on vector-borne diseases, highlighting the importance and proper usage of Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs). LLIN bed nets were also distributed among elderly residents.

The State Entomological Team, led by Atuonuo Rupreo, Entomology Consultant, also carried out a larval survey in the surrounding areas, informed a press release from NVBDCP, DoH&FW.
