Commemoration of National Girl Child Day & BBBP at Pfutsero

Phek, January 22 (MExN): The opening ceremony on celebration of National Girl Child Day and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao week under the theme “Empower the Girl Child by educating her” was observed at GHSS Pfutsero on January 21 with SDPO Pfutsero, IPS Aotula Imchen and Director CWWS Vechulou Kanuo as the theme speakers.


Aotula, speaking on the topic ‘Empowering the girl child through education’ said that our Naga society in many sense is very equal. She also said that the Naga society was performing better compared to others, adding that irrespective of being a girl child or a boy child, if we want to make an impact to the society, the basic start is education.


She asserted that education makes one self confident, raises our self esteem, improves communication skills, gives courage to face society, helps in health and family welfare and also improves economic standing of the family. This was stated in a press release by Zewepre IA Pfutsero.


Vechulou Kanuo speaking on the topic ‘promoting gender equality in the family and society’ said that gender equality is the stage of equal access of resources and opportunities regardless of gender such as economic participation, participation in decision making and valuing different behaviors. She also said that gender equality is not human rights but a foundation for peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world.


Kanuo also said that gender equality does not mean men and women should always be treated the same. The fact that God has created men and women with biological differences cannot be altered, she said, adding that gender equality is an issue for both men and women and one should not misuse it. She further encouraged the girls to walk an extra in order to achieve their goals.


The programme was chaired by Principal GHSS Pfutsero, Vechikhoyi Lohe. Keynote address was delivered by ADC Pfutsero, Zeneikhonuo Vimero and vote of thanks was pronounced by SDO Pfutsero, Dr Diana Patton.
