Kohima, August 22 (MExN): The Nagaland Law Students’ Federation on Monday appealed to the Government of Nagaland to speed up release of funds so as to complete the construction of the High Court in Kohima in the current year.
“The NLSF also states that it will be compelled to take up any democratic means of protest and agitation if the High Court building fails to get complete within this year,” it said in a press release.
According to the release, the NLSF, as per a resolution adopted in its Federal Assembly in earlier July, visited the construction site on August 16 to find out the status of the ongoing project.
“Upon detailed interaction with a contractor, the NLSF was baffled to find out that there are 81 contractors in the ongoing High Court construction, thereby causing problems,” the release stated. Stating that the contractors are trying their best to complete the High Court Building at the earliest, subject to the payment of running bills by the government, it expressed shock that the government has not been releasing the funds on time and appealed to the state government to start releasing the liability fund to the contractors so that construction works can be carried out smoothly before the end of the year.
The NLSF also pointed out that the foundation stone for the High Court was laid on May 21, 2007 and the project remaining incomplete even after 15 years is a mockery of the governing system when compared with other neighbouring states which started High Court construction at the same time. “High court is the temple of democracy and the government of the day must not allow any hindrances towards its early completion,” it asserted, while appealing the Government to speed up the release of funds.
