Kohima, September 19 (MExN): Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA), Dr. Imtiwapang Aier today expressed sadness over the demise of Viyekha Rengma, former MLA on September 18. He was the first Rengma to be elected as Member of Legislative Assembly from 12-Tseminyu Assembly Constituency to the First House in 1964. “Late Viyekha Rengma was a dynamic public leader who dedicated his life for the welfare of the Naga people. He was a man of principle with strong determination,” the Speaker said in a condolence message. In his death, the State has lost a committed leader in general and for the Rengma tribe in particular, he added.
Er. Levi: Er. Levi Rengma remembered Viyekha as “a man with one of the rare untainted leadership quality and servant of society, with a commendable degree of political maturity and knowledge in the issues of the Rengmas and Nagas in general.” His unparallel personality and charismatic leadership quality will continue to live on and guide us, he added in a condolence message. Er. Levi conveyed heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family.
Deo Nukhu: Advisor for Higher Education & NBHM, Deo Nukhu has also expressed condolence to the bereaved family of Viyekha. Terming him a pioneer in regional politics, Nukhu said his death is a loss not only to his community and Tenyimi people but to the Nagas as a whole. “May his honesty and good deeds be a guide to the future generation,” he wished and prayed that God will grant solace and comfort to his wife and the bereaved family.
NNPGs: The six NNPGs (Working Committee) expressed deepest sorrow on the death of Viyekha. Being the first MLA from the Rengma community under Tseminyu constituency, truly his passing away has created a huge vacuum for all specially the younger generation, stated a condolence message from Media Cell, Working Committee Six NNPGs. “His noble work for the cause of Nagas as a dynamic leader will always be remembered and cherished in the hearts of every people especially the Rengmas. It will be immeasurable to describe in words about such a great leader who is irreplaceable,” it added. The six NNPGs extended condolence and prayed that God gives strength and solace to the bereaved family members.
RSU: The Rengma Students' Union (RSU) also expressed pain and sadness over the demise of Veyikha Apon. The union in a condolence message stated that late Veyikha had always worked towards the welfare of the community. “The integrity that he maintained in his leadership has left a deep mark for generation to look up and follow,” it added. The union further conveyed heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family members and prayed that God's comfort be upon them.
