Cong distributes 56 tickets; 4 remaining

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 31 (MExN): The state Congress on Thursday distributed party tickets to 56 candidates to contest the forthcoming assembly polls on February 23. The tickets for remaining four constituencies namely; 4 Ghaspani II, 9 Kohima Town, 49 Tamlu and 42 Wakching would be distributed at a later date, Congress party sources said.

Former state Chief Minister and former Governor of Goa and Maharashtra, S.C. Jamir told the gathered candidates and partymen that the Congress has a “new vision and direction” and that the party was going to the polls with a new programme to redeem the people of Nagaland.  He alleged that the State during the last 10 years have collapsed in all respects as the in-built system of governance had completely derailed and the society was in total confusion.

“Shall we allow our people to continue in this kind of society where you cannot expect security to life and property?” he asked.
Jamir alleged that the “visionless” government of NPF has destroyed the society and the very people whom the Congress is trying to rescue now. He said Nagaland was supposed to be a Christian state but rued that everything including the Churches has been totally subverted by sins.

He urged the candidates to contest with the principles of the party and not to be faltering Congressmen. On the allegation made by former CLP leader Chingwang Konyak about the lack of unity and cohesion in the Congress party, Jamir said, “no one can divide Congress house which has internal democracy.”

CLP leader, Tokheho Yepthomi said that the Congress will fight the election against the NPF with issues even as he alleged that the NPF would be fighting against Congress with money accumulated for 10 years. He expressed optimism that the party would get majority during the polls.
