Cong for ‘Blanket ban on payment of electricity bill’

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 18 (MExN): The Anti-Corruption Cell of the District Congress Committee (DCC), Dimapur has resolved to begin its proposed second phase of agitation protesting against the government’s failure to provide regular supply of electricity. A press release from the Cell stated that the decision was arrived at a meeting held on August 18. The Cell in the release stated, it “shall enforce blanket bandh on payment of electricity bill till the Government pay serious attention towards the restoration of normal power supply in Dimapur… w.e.f 20th August 2012.”

“The unanimous decision to this effect was made due to non-fulfillment of our six charter of demand served to electrical department on 9th August 2012 during its first phase of agitation in the form of office picketing at all the electrical office in Dimapur.”

The department failed to meet the demands within the stipulated time forcing the Cell to continue with the agitation “till its genuine public demands are fulfilled in the interest of the public,” it added. It thus, appealed the public to cooperate with the Cell and participate by desisting from paying power bills till the power crisis is remedied. While appreciating the general public for raising voice against the government’s failure, the Cell however called upon the masses to not resort to violent means to make their voices heard. It called for participation in the true spirit of democracy.
