Cong ‘no’ to Common platform

NPCC lauds FNR for bringing Naga groups together

Dimapur, September 9 (MExN): The Opposition Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has put on record its stated position on the proposed Common Naga Platform, pointing out that it is not necessary at this juncture. The decision of the Nagaland Congress comes in the wake of similar stand taken by the Naga  groups—the NSCNs and FGN. NPCC President KV Pusa in a press note while extending its profound appreciation to the Forum for Naga Reconciliation stated that the latter had rendered “an incredible and worthy service in bringing the Naga political groups together in a true Christian belief and principle.”  “So all sections of Nagas should lend  support to the Forum for Naga Reconciliation,”  Pusa stated. The proposed Common Naga Platform (CNP) is not necessary at this juncture so as to “avoid the intrusion of political disease into our system and ward off further fragmentation and division of Naga society.”

The NPCC president admitted that factional killings have ‘come to a halt only and only through the initiative of the FNR’  besides the “understanding and reciprocal (positive) attitude shown by the Naga underground groups and all political parties.” According to the NPCC, there has been gradual improvement of the situation as far as factional killings are concerned.

“Truly the relentless effort of the Forum for Naga Reconciliation have enlivened our hope and expectation towards fulfilling the ardent and cherished aspiration of Naga people”, Pusa stated.

Meanwhile the NPCC President has stated that if Nagas are to accomplish their “long felt objective”, it cannot afford to keep on fragmenting itself by “creating social entities after entities”. According to the NPCC adding more entities is “breeding more division, hegemony and hatred within our singular community as Nagas”. The NPCC lamented that in the social evolution today Nagas have earned a dubious distinction for creating and manufacturing social organizations which is leading to fragmentation of our social fabric further and deeper. “It has even cut into the cohesion and bond of one’s family”.

Further on the question of “common issues and aspiration of the entire Naga people”, the NPCC stated that to achieve “our desired goals with one accord”, unity and oneness is required “no matter how long the road may be arduous and strenuous”.
