Cong repeats: Upheavals reflects DAN’s weakness

Dimapur, September 3 (MExN): The Nagaland Congress has denounced the Nagaland government for trying to wash its hands off the August 31 incident in Kohima and the upheaval that followed in Dimapur. An angry Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) hit out at senior minister TR Zeliang for blaming the opposition of “politicizing the incident” knowing very well that the incident is the latest reflection of the lack of policing and public governance from the ruling Democratic Alliance of Nagaland.

“The statement of TR Zeliang blaming the NPCC as politicizing the incident of August 31 is totally uncalled for, very irresponsible and unbecoming of a senior minister,” the NPCC said in a statement issued to the Media. “The unfortunate incident at Kohima is purely the failure of the State Government in checking NGOs thereby allowing the NGOs to take the law in their hand thereby creating such unwanted situations in our fragile Naga society. The tension and arson that follow at Dimapur on August 1 was also escalated due to the failure of the District administration,” the Congress said.

Thanks to some sensible Naga civil society leaders, the NPCC said, the tense situation could be diffused somehow. “The NPCC officials and party men and women have worked tirelessly in meeting different organizations and conducting meetings to diffuse the situations yet it did not seek any limelight nor any publicity for its efforts. In fact, the NPCC in particular is happy that the tension and arson at Dimapur on last Saturday is being diffused for which we thank the Naga civil societies for their contributions for peace at Dimapur and in Naga society.”

The Congress has refused to budge from its conviction that the entire issue stems from the lackadaisical and indifferent attitude of “those people at the helms of affairs including district administration and law enforcing agencies.”

The Congress also appreciated Kanito of Keltomi village, the father of Late Kivika “for showing true Christian spirit in forgiving those culprits. His commendable and large hearted gesture is the best example for all of us to learn and be proud of.”
