Cong workers confirm petition on Jamir

MON, MAY 27 (MExN): The local level Congress party workers of Mon flayed the Mon DCC (I) for having denied knowledge of the petition which appealed for the recalling of SC Jamir back to the state politics. The ex-President of the DCC (I), Tingnyeih, stated that the meeting of the district party leaders, excluding the MLAs, with the ACCI Secretary, Ranjit Thomas was arranged and initiated by the DCC (I) under the Presidentship of P Chingao and it was in the meeting that the petition was submitted with the knowledge of everyone present. On the submitting of the said petition, Ranjit Thomas had asked all the members if everyone was in agreement with the request for Jamir’s return, to which everyone had indicated agreement. At this request made in one spirit, the ACCI Secretary had assured the party that he would convey their message to Delhi.

It was also reported that the meeting had been attended by all the workers of the district but no MLA was present. In the meeting, the workers had reviewed the work accomplished by the party so far even as the elections are just round the corner, saying that the Congress in the state was still sleeping. Compared to that of Mayawati’s BSP in UP, which had gone campaigning house to house and community to community, the district leaders lamented that no work had been done by the Nagaland Congress till now. They further discussed that to awaken this sleeping state of the party, the only hope was if the former Chief Minister, Dr SC Jamir was brought back to head the party in the state.

The Congress leaders of Mon, while stating that they still stood by the decision taken collectively during the meeting, slammed the DCC for saying that the petition might have been submitted at an individual capacity.

It may be mentioned that the DCC (I) had earlier issued a rejoinder to the news item regarding the petition, that the Committee had no knowledge of the said petition submitted to Ranjit Thomas. The petition had asked for a change of leadership in the Congress party and suggested that Jamir be brought back to the state politics for the salvation of the Congress party.
