With two major parties— BJP and NPF out of the race in the by-poll to the vacant to 58 Shamator-Chessore Assembly Constituency, only the Congress had remained as a probable opponent to the NDPP.

However, it is also not to be. The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee has also opted out of the bye-election. A state Congress leader told The Morung Express that the party leadership has decided not to set up a candidate for 58 Shamator-Chessore. The decision was made at the party meeting held in Kohima on October 6 with All India Congress Committee Secretary (in-charge of Nagaland), Ajoy Kumar.

The last date of nomination to the bye-election, as announced by the Election Commission of India, is October 8.
