DIMAPUR: Six Indian National Congress (INC) Councilors of the Chumukedima Town Council (CTC) have spoken out against the letter of memorandum entitled, ‘Memorandum for Dissolution of Chumukedima Town Council’ dated September 17 which was jointly submitted by four sitting NPF councilors; a suspended NPF councilor and ‘three quashed nominated councilors of the CTC.’ Ghusheto Zhimomi, Keneisetuo Dolie, Niken Aonok, Khriesavilie Yhoshu, Batou Kuotsu and Khriesavilie Sekhose, in an open letter to the Commissioner and Secretary, Local Self Government, categorically replied to the allegations earlier made against them.

The INC councilors said they were more regular and effective than their NPF counterparts as records suggest. They further said that they walked out from the elections of chairperson and Deputy Chairperson because they foresaw the evil and coercive design (unconstitutionally granting voting-right to nominated members) of the ruling NPF. They also downplayed the remaining allegations against them as ‘baseless and childish.’ As such, they have asked the concerned Department to justify the matter “in the best interests of the general public rather than the baseless and laughable demand of the complainants.’
