MLA K Therie is waiting for the ‘right situation’ and “let time come” if at all he joins the Congress party fulfilling recent speculations of returning to his former party. Therie, however, vehemently refuses to say whether or not he would join the Nagaland Congress, the party that has made explicit of its willingness to ‘welcome’ him courtesy the ‘open-door policy.’ Significantly the Pfutsero District Congress Committee, which had earlier been not too keen to accept Therie back into the party fold, has now officially endorsed the ‘open door policy’ of the State high command virtually assuring of a happy home coming for the beleaguered Therie i.e. if the former Finance Minister in the present DAN government decides to take the political plunge. It may be mentioned that Therie won on an NPF ticket from Pfutsero Assembly Constituency.
For now however, the NPF leader-under-suspension is sending out ambiguous messages to political observers: “the institution and situation of the NPF is well-known to the people and the state. I have been on suspension for about two years now without trail. We cannot continue in this same situation.”
So will he join the Congress? “I’m still with the NPF. But let time speak. Let the right situation and the right time come,” he said. To the query if this “let time speak” also meant his joining the Congress depends on the NPF’s “treatment” of him and “treatment of the suspension,” Therie ambiguously replied “it’s up to them.” So what would the ‘right time and situation’ to join the Congress be like? “No comments” he said flatly informing that there are greater issues.
The MLA asserted that the issue was not about leaving the NPF and joining the Congress but the “parallel governments” being run in Nagaland. Without directly referring to the Naga underground organizations, Therie expressed grave concern that the people are suffering due to the “parallel governments” being run. “We should come together to resolve this issue” he said.
NPCC President Hoketo Sumi on the other hand kept the ‘door’ open: “The open-door policy is a general policy and not an exception or special policy for him (Therie)” Sumi said adding that any person can join the Congress provided he functions in line with the ‘tenets’ of the party.
