Kohima, May 27 (MExN): A one day awareness programme on conservation of natural resources held here highlighted the diverse applications to protect and preserve forests, wild life as well as creating an eco-friendly environment.
Organized as a part of the “Year of Farmers”, it was graced by Kohima Deputy Commissioner Ramakhrishnan, IAS as the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. K Kire, IFS, DFO Kohima called for protection and preservation of forests.
Villagers are being encouraged to carry out tree plantations in a large scale, he said adding that the burning of jungles and killing of wild life are being seriously viewed by the state government.
Referring to the rich flora and fauna, he called for a broader participation in activities to maintain ecological balance in their respective regions.
Referring to the mass tree plantation drive in the state, he advised the people to take due consideration of the suitability of species.
The department, he said, has provided LPG gas connection to several villages in order to minimize the volume of firewood-usage. The department encouraged the people to increase the use of LPG and pressure cookers in the State. Nino Iralu, ADC (Judicial), Kohima spoke on the topic 'offence and penalties.'
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Dharmendra Prakash, IFS, CF (RPU). Vengoto led the discussion and interaction while the Vote of thanks was proposed by Ango Konyak, Forest Ranger, Kohima.
