Constitution continues to be guiding light, evolving with time: NU VC

Lumami, January 27 (MExN): Emphasising the enduring relevance of the Constitution of India, Vice-Chancellor of Nagaland University (NU)  Prof JK Patnaik said that the Constitution continues to be the nation’s guiding light, evolving with time to meet the needs of changing circumstances.

Unfurling the National Flag during the 77th Republic Day celebrations at the Lumami headquarters on January 26, Prof Patnaik said that despite numerous challenges, India has made rapid progress and today stands as an emerging global power.

He noted that the country’s purchasing power position among the world’s leading economies is well established, with aspirations of becoming a multi-trillion-dollar economy in which every citizen has a rightful share.

Referring to global challenges such as trade barriers, tariffs and other non-security economic pressures, he emphasised the need to overcome them through determination, clarity of thought, sustained effort and the courage to face adversity.

Dwelling further on the Constitution, Prof Patnaik said that the country’s leadership in the years following Independence worked within severe resource constraints but adopted development strategies that laid a strong foundation for future growth.

He highlighted the role of cooperation between the State and private leadership in navigating those early challenges.

He also said the founding fathers, through the Constituent Assembly, worked tirelessly to ensure harmony, peace and participation in the nation-building process.

National integration, he added, has been possible because of the Constitution, which guarantees equality, fundamental rights and dignity to every citizen, while also emphasising duties.

The VC further highlighted developments at NU over the past three years, with emphasis on strengthening the academic, administrative and infrastructure ecosystem.

He said the University aims to transform its academic environment, including research, publications and the teaching-learning system, with the National Education Policy (NEP) providing opportunities to reform academic and administrative structures.

He lauded the role of officers, heads of departments and staff in implementing reforms and noted the University’s performance in resource generation and mobilisation.

According to a press release, Registrar Dr Abemo, Controller of Examinations and Finance Officer (in-charge) Er Yanrenthung Ezung, along with directors, deans, heads of departments, faculty members, officers, administrative staff, research scholars and students, were present at the flag-unfurling ceremony at Lumami.

The programme ended with a vote of thanks proposed by NU PRO Peter Ki. The Republic Day was also celebrated across various campuses of the University, added a press release from the University.
