Following the detection of a positive COVID-19 case from a laboratory technician at the ongoing BSL-2 lab installation in Tuensang on July 7, extra preventive measures have been taken up to contain possible cross-infection among workers.

“Extra measures were taken to make sure that the remaining workers are not infected. They were kept at the District Hospital without any contact with the outsiders. Altogether 24 workers were tested on July 13 and their results came negative,” an in-charge at BSL-2 lab installation told The Morung Express.

”They will be released tomorrow and a new batch will arrive but we have not received information about them so far,” the in-charge added.

Construction works at the installation site were resumed on Saturday (July 11).

Once completed, the BSL-2 laboratory in Tuensang would be the third such laboratory in the state, with two already in operation – one at the Naga Hospital Kohima Authority (BSL-3) in Kohima and the other at the Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research, Dimapur (BSL-2).
