DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 20 (MExN): A consultative meeting was held on September 19, 2024, at Yonglok village, Longleng, to discuss the proposed railway belt from Dimapur to Tizit in Mon district. The meeting, chaired by MLA B. Bangtick Phom, brought together key stakeholders, including the Deputy Commissioner of Longleng, W. Manpai Phom, Superintendent of Police Longleng, the President of the Phom Peoples Council, and representatives from the concerned village councils.
During the meeting, MLA Bangtick Phom highlighted the importance of collaboration from all parties to ensure the successful implementation of the railway project within Longleng district. He urged the village authorities to issue No Objection Certificates (NOC) to facilitate the project's finalization and emphasized that the active participation of all stakeholders would be crucial in moving the project forward.
The discussion revealed that the proposed railway belt would affect three villages in Longleng district—Yonglok, Shetep, and Namahching. A consensus was reached to organize a joint consultation with all stakeholders from Dimapur and other villages and towns along the proposed railway belt. The affected village councils requested that MLA Phom take up the matter with the Chief Minister of Nagaland to address their concerns and ensure the project proceeds smoothly.
The attendees also agreed, in principle, to issue NOCs on the condition that beneficiaries receive compensation according to the approved government rates. Additionally, they proposed the establishment of a full-fledged railway station at Yonglok village to serve the needs of the district. This demand was acknowledged and accepted during the meeting.
In a show of support for the project, the Bura Namsang Village Council, representing the parent village of the affected areas, expressed no objections to the government’s planned developmental activities. The council affirmed its willingness to cooperate in the project’s implementation.
The meeting concluded with a commitment from all parties to work together for the successful execution of the proposed railway project, addressing the concerns and demands of the affected communities to ensure equitable development in the region.
