Consumer awareness campaign held at Mt Tiyi Govt College

Wokha, October 3 (MExN): Sensitization and awareness campaign on consumer rights, street vendor, human rights, environment, food safety and food security was conducted at Mt Tiyi Government College, Wokha on October 1.
A press release from NVCO stated the resource persons consisted of LLB final students of Kohima Law College – Taniko Thupita, K Atolimi Zhimomi, Shenti Humtsoe, Alibo Yepthomi and Bamsiliu Rentta led by its Assistant Professor Kezhokhoto Savi, Advocate who is also the President of Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organization (NVCO).
Savi while addressing the college students highlighted the importance of every student to know one’s consumer rights and duties and remain alert especially while buying goods and availing services.
He has also appealed the citizens of every district to be vigilant of the illegal practices of collecting cash in several forms which causes price-rise in the market and the victim are the consumers.
The NVCO appealed the state government to implement the Street Vendors Act 2014 in the state with a consideration that street vending licence would be given to local street vendors on preference basis. Savi reminded the students and faculty to continually voice against the Citizen Amendment Bill (CAB) as this Bill was going to take away the future of everyone. The resource persons while highlighting right to safety as one of the main consumer rights talked of the importance of the Mobile Food Testing Laboratory Van to test the various suspected food. The awareness programme was led by the Principal and attended by all the college students and teaching faculty. Vote of thanks was pronounced by Dr Kezha Metha.
