Kohima, September 26 (MExN): A Consumer Awareness Programme on “Consumer Rights and E-Commerce Scams” was organised by the Uzho Cultural Society in collaboration with the Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection, Government of Nagaland at Government Higher Secondary School, Pfutsero on September 25.
The resource person, Kopre Lasuh, Advocate, spoke on various aspects of consumer awareness, including who is a consumer and the rights of consumers.
He highlighted the importance of being vigilant while making purchases, particularly through online platforms, and cautioned participants against fake websites, fraudulent online sellers, e-commerce scams and counterfeit products.
He further informed the participants that consumers facing fraud or other consumer-related grievances can seek assistance through the State Consumer Helpline at 1800-345-3701 and other appropriate consumer grievance-redressal mechanisms. In cases involving fraudulent financial transactions, consumers were also advised to immediately contact their bank and report the transaction for necessary action.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Kuvethito Curhah.
The programme ended with an appeal for greater consumer awareness and responsibility, encouraging the public to know their consumer rights, remain vigilant against e-commerce scams and seek timely assistance when faced with consumer-related grievances.
